Choreographic piece for 1 dancer
First steps in the theatre
A performance for children aged three and upwards, which will stir up memories of water, so close to them, and take its first steps in the theatre in a close relationship with the audience.
L’Eau douce is designed as a choreographic reverie stirring up the strange, light and playful side of this elusive element. Aimed at younger audiences, it will bring to the surface of their bodies and imaginations a whole range of impressions, sensations and movements linked to our intimate, age-old relationship with water. It’s a search that will focus on the connection and the appeal to the senses, in a quest for the marvellous, mixed with a touch of anxiety. L’Eau douce will cultivate the welcoming, fantastic, furious and playful side of water, capturing its changing and unpredictable mood… To get as close as possible, to understand in a different way and, who knows, to finally take care of this indispensable element.

About dance…
Much of the dance will come from research into the states of water, to be embodied and sometimes confronted with the body of the performer:
The solid state, such as ice and snow, accompanied by notions of blocks, cracks, drifting, melting and the softness to the touch of the white mantle…
The liquid state found in rivers, seas, oceans, rain, clouds and fog. We’ll be looking for the liquid, smooth, flowing gesture, the extreme fluidity of a dance. Conversely, we’ll try to create a body shaken by the energy of a storm, a whirlwind, lost in imaginary opposing currents.
The gaseous state, present in water vapour but invisible to the naked eye, allows us to dream of a light, transparent dance, as fragile as a bubble.
The dance will also seek to organise the splashing, spurting and ‘diving’ into a joyful score and touch on the caress, the delicate relationship between water and the body. The gentleness of bathing and washing. The grace of a ritual.
It is also inspired by the fantastic creatures of the water: mermaids, water dragons, translucent sea monsters from the depths, undines, nixes, secret, seductive and dangerous nymphs…
‘I don't like baths, I can hardly swim, I'm terrified of the dark ocean in the middle of the night and I hate having my head under water, where sounds seem dangerously distorted. On the other hand, I love, almost out of defiance, to throw myself into the icy waters of mountain streams or float in the lagoons of warm, distant seas... What an ideal starting point for a future creation!'
